About
A Hoyapreneur Working With Hoyapreneurs
I'm an award-winning business and financial journalist and editorial advisor whose career spans more than 20 years across journalism, editorial strategy, institutional communications, and executive thought leadership.
I earned my Master of Professional Studies in Corporate Communications from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies in 2019, where I focused on change communications in the wealth-management sector. I also hold a bachelor's degree from Wellesley College.
By the time I entered my Georgetown master's program, I'd already spent two decades building an independent professional practice. My graduate work deepened my existing experience, particularly my understanding of organizational structure and consequential change in cross-functional, multi-layered corporate environments. It also strengthened my approach to translating sophisticated subject matter into credible, useful editorial assets, especially for senior executives.
A Career Built Around Editorial Judgment
My professional experience includes editorial work for or with organizations and brands including Synovus Private Wealth, RBC Wealth Management, Northern Trust, Raymond James, Allianz Global Investors, Fifth Third Bank Wealth and Asset Management, and Amex Business Intel.
My published journalism has appeared in Family Business Magazine, Forbes, TODAY Money, Black Enterprise, and other nationally recognized business and financial publications and platforms.
That work has required more than the ability to write well. I've spent my career interviewing executives and subject-matter experts, conducting and interpreting research, working with complex financial and business subjects, developing stories from substantial source material, and making editorial decisions about what an audience actually needs to know.
Those years of practice are the foundation of the editorial judgment I bring to Hoya Editorial Advisory.
Testimonial
“Dahna is exceptional at editorial asset development, and I’m incredibly impressed by both the speed and quality of the editorial strategy she delivered for us! Her sector-specific expertise is both broad and outstanding, and she’s a pleasure to collaborate with. This is truly her zone of genius, and I recommend her highly.”

Over 20 Years as an Independent Practitioner
I've spent much of my career working independently, which means I understand entrepreneurship from inside the practice of it.
I've had to build and sustain client relationships, scope engagements, manage complex assignments, deliver work to professional standards, adapt as publishing and communications markets changed, and make decisions about where my expertise creates the greatest value.
I also understand the difference between possessing professional expertise and building a business capable of sustaining and extending it.
That's why I don't approach established Hoyapreneurs as though they need someone to explain their own businesses to them. You bring the business, professional experience, subject-matter knowledge, and understanding of your market. I bring a different body of expertise to the editorial work that emerges from it.
Why Hoya Editorial Advisory?
Georgetown has a substantial community of alumni who have built companies, independent practices, investment firms, advisory businesses, and other professional enterprises. I'm part of that community.
I created Hoya Editorial Advisory to make a particular part of my professional practice available within it: senior editorial expertise for fellow Hoyapreneurs whose businesses are already established and who occasionally need an experienced outside practitioner for consequential editorial work.
This isn't my well-established institutional consulting practice repackaged at a lower price point. It's a separate, intentionally limited practice built around the discrete editorial needs that arise inside established businesses and professional practices.
That distinction allows me to offer smaller engagements without treating the expertise behind them as smaller.
The Practice I Bring to the Work
After more than 20 years in editorial work, I know that producing words is only part of the job.
The harder questions require nuanced human judgment: what deserves attention, what the evidence actually supports, what belongs in an editorial asset, what distracts from it, what remains unsaid but consequential, what an audience needs, and whether the finished asset appropriately represents the expertise and reputation behind it while meeting the needs of the business and its audience.
I approach those decisions with preparation, candor, editorial independence, respect for the client's expertise, and accountability for my own.
Hoya Editorial Advisory gives established Georgetown alumni entrepreneurs access to that practice for a defined editorial asset when they need it.
